Online Divorce
Facing the prospect of divorce can be daunting, terrifying and stressful – not just for the obvious emotional upheaval, but also because of the additional financial stress and pressure.
Of all my friends who have been through a divorce process, and unfortunately there are many, none of them have particularly loved the experience. However, it seems there is an increasing shift to using the internet to process divorces now – yep, you did read that right, you can now get an online divorce, and the great news is that its easy, cheap and efficient!
My latest friend who used an internet divorce service whole heartedly recommends it, even going as far to say that it made splitting up very nearly enjoyable. Now i’m not quite sure about that, but it did pique my interest enough to delve a little further.
So the cost of a normal divorce through a bricks and mortar solicitor will cost you about £1200 minimum – that would be if the divorce is straight forward and the solicitor really just has to process the paperwork, cross the t’s and dot the i’s. Expensive.
The cheapest I could find on the internet for an online divorce service was £68. No, I haven’t missed off a decimal point or an extra number – less than £100 will get the divorce through and the decree absoloute – stunning!
So why doesn’t everyone do this? Well there are some basic criteria which online divorces have to meet. the divorce must be uncontested, it must be amicable ( by amicable, it really means that both parties have happily agreed to split and are not going to argue the divorce ).
Perhaps the best thing about getting an online divorce is the fact that you are not subjected to the face to face inquisition in front of an unknown solicitor as you have to regurgitate all the reasons why you split etc etc. By doing it online, I guess the process is a little bit cold, but in my opinion, thats perfect.
Fingers crossed I won’t have to find out for real if these services are as good as they’re made upto be.
